“When I grow up, I want to pull myself out of a hat.”- K.G.L.

In recent years, she has rekindled her love for intuitive drawing, bringing both principles of mindful awareness and decades of drawing practice together to inspire spaciousness & curiosity.

About

Decades have passed since my time scrawling Crayola cats onto my parent’s dining room walls and trying to hock the sketches of my favorite animated characters from the Lion King at elementary school. In 2010 I earned my BFA with an emphasis in drawing from Sam Houston State University in Texas and in 2019 I became a proud recipient of an MFA in Studio Art from Portland’s Maine College of Art & Design where I explored figurative and alternative sculpture.

I grew up spending much of my time wandering the woods and the fields near my childhood home. Inspired by nature, my work expresses the qualities of soft attention, of the way that a cluster of limbs morph and stretch into strange creatures when you're almost not looking. It’s where I learned to communicate with the beings that stand still, where I learned to feel what I couldn’t see or hear. It's where I experienced how inseparable I am from this thing we call scenery. My work draws so profoundly from these qualities, that even when I’m not looking, it’s in there ;-)

Intuitive Drawings

This pen & ink series is greatly inspired by the curiousness of the Uncanny and the Principle of Letting Go. These drawings play on a combination of automated mark making and refining as emerging figures and forms manifest from intuitive repetition. They are my way of exploring atmosphere and ground, consciousness and “the real,” freedom and restriction.

Surreal Portraiture

This collection channels more assertive play, particularly play with identity and relativity. I have been doing portraiture for many years. It’s what really inspired me to begin taking drawing seriously in the first place. So this series is somewhat of an homage to that genesis, but in charcoal and with this strange feeling of being ungrounded.

I am currently available to accept commissioned drawings on a first come first serve basis. Upon inquiry, I will send you a breakdown of medium, paper choices and sizes, and provide you with a quote based on $75/ hr. ***all quotes will be honored should my time surpass the amount of time that I quote. It’s very likely that I will provide a short range; depending on the amount of details, some portraits will take longer than others.

If you are interested in commissioning a portrait drawing, please be sure that the resolution of your favorite photograph is at least 300dpi. My style of graphite and charcoal portraiture renders quite a bit of detail. So being able to see the subject of honor clearly is super important!
